About

A Brief History

The South Broward Bar Association (SBBA) is a voluntary bar association revived in January 2008, after a thirteen year hiatus, by Kenneth P. Hassett (Past-President, 2008-2010). The SBBA was honored to welcome Broward County Chief Judge Victor Tobin as the guest speaker at our first luncheon held on March 6, 2008. We were honored to have such a remarkable guest and had a very successful introductory luncheon.  Since then, the SBBA's good fortune has continued and we've had numerous county, circuit, and appellate judges, along with several prominent members from the local legal community, as our monthly guest speakers.  That tradition continues in 2011, and you can see our upcoming speakers on our Events page.

Our Mission

The SBBA is excited to announce it has applied for and is currently awaiting approval of its federal income tax exemption as a section 501(c)(6) organization under section 501(a) of the Internal Revenue Code.  In this regard, the SBBA has recently reorganized its mission to further the common business interests of members including:

i.    promoting interest in the practice of law within the state of Florida,

ii.    seeking improvement to the administration of legal justice in Broward County, Florida, and

iii.    providing a forum for members to discuss, review, and analyze legal trends, decisions, rulings, and other issues affecting the legal industry.
